Alabama Renegades Hang Up the Football Pads
08/21/08
Team Press Release
The Alabama Renegades Women's Full Contact Football team reluctantly will no longer field a football team in the National Women's Football Association (NWFA).
The Renegades were one of the two founding teams in the NWFA when the league started in the fall of 2000 and was the longest running team in the NWFA, as of
this year. Ray Quinn started Huntsville's first women's football team in 2000 and Nancy Byrd took the team over in 2002. She, along with general manager,
Lori Campbell ran the team for the next six years.
"I decided to retire from playing and no one was willing to take on the responsibility of running this team. I appreciate the opportunity Ray and Catherine
Masters (NWFA founder)
gave me to play football." stated Byrd.
The Renegades team had a great core of wonderful women who loved to play the game of football and consisted of some remarkable athletes over the years.
The various coaches and staff members over the past eight years worked hard to make the Renegades a better team and to help promote the sport of women's
football in the Huntsville area.
